Reigate high-back lounge chair and footstool c.1964
Reigate high-back lounge chair and footstool c.1964
An opportunity to acquire an exceptional example of a classic modernist design by William (Billy) Plunkett c.1964. One owner from new and originally purchased in Harrods of London. This striking sculptural design is both beautifully engineered and highly sophisticated with its slender solid steel frame that is coated in a dark grey nylon and anodised aluminium back and armrest base. The frame is in wonderful original condition with just a couple of light marks. The chair has had all new replacement webbing and clips with correctly detailed foam cushions that are cleverly secured in place with a combination of webbing, press studs (between the back and head rest cushion) and the wrapped head-rest cushion as per original, finished in a subtle textured Tiree wool fabric from Bute in Windsor blue - the overall impact is just gorgeous. A fabulous piece of British modernism by one of the greatest British designers of the period. Matching high-back rocker and exceptionally rare three seat sofa also available for bespoke upholstery - please contact us to discuss.
