Walnut and beech sideboard by Vesper Furniture c.1957
Walnut and beech sideboard by Vesper Furniture c.1957
A rare, beautifully styled and exquisitely detailed 50’s sideboard manufactured by Gimson & Slater under the ‘Vesper’ furniture brand. I have only ever seen 2 other examples of this particular sideboard – an outstanding piece of distinctive British 1950’s styling and craftsmanship. The ‘Hopewell’ sideboard is finished in a rich Australian walnut with contrasting beech legs, trim and unique handles. In fabulous restored condition this piece was sourced from the family of the original owner who purchased it as part of a dining set from Ray & Miles of Liverpool c.1957. The cupboards open to reveal a contrasting sycamore lined interior with a single fixed shelf. The three drawers are all constructed from solid sycamore frames – the top drawer partioned for cutlery retains its original green felt lining. The overhanging top has a curved front edge and is constructed from solid timber with a deep chamfered edge and then veneered in richly figured and coloured Australian walnut – the overall impact of this piece is really something very special. Try and find another!
