Rare mahogany and sycamore dressing table c.1954

£995.00

A wonderful fully restored mahogany and sycamore dressing table unit by Jacques Groag for Loughborough Furniture c.1954. Part of a very rare modular unit furniture range designed by Groag (an architect by training). The base unit features three drawers and cupboard with a single adjustable / removable shelf. The drop down front opens to reveal a fully fitted interior finished in a contrasting sycamore that includes 2 glass shelfs, drawer and adjustable mirror with additional storage behind. The bureau is complete with the original working lock and key. The piece is beautifully detailed throughout with solid mahogany handles, routed detailing to the front face and a kicking front leg and is wonderfully constructed and finished. Presented in excellent restored condition with just the odd light ding and nibble only visible on very, very close inspection. The rich natural grain and lustre to the mahogany exterior is very special and this contrasts beautifully with the pale sycamore interior that has been carefully cleaned and is in wonderful condition given this piece is nearing 70 years old - its a real credit to the original owners. An incredibly stylish and flexible piece.
