Exceptional mahogany dressing table / chest unit c.1954
An absolutely beautiful fully restored mahogany and sycamore dressing table / chest unit by J. Groag by Loughborough Furniture. Part of a previously unknown modular unit furniture range designed in c.1954 - this is the first piece from this range I’ve ever seen. Sourced from the family of the original owner this piece was purchased in 1955, matching three drawer chest of drawers also available and coming soon. The base unit features three drawers and cupboard with a single adjustable / removable shelf. The dressing table unit, complete with original key opens to reveal a contrasting sycamore lined interior and is fitted with a drawer, two glass shelves and a mirror that can be raised to reveal another storage area. Beautifully detailed throughout with solid mahogany handles, routed detailing to the front face with a kicking front leg the piece is wonderfully constructed and finished. Presented in excellent restored condition - incredible rich natural lustre to the mahogany exterior that contrast beautifully with the pale sycamore interior that has been carefully cleaned and is in wonderful condition - just the odd tiny mark and ding, some very faint foxing to the mirror. An exceptionally rare and beautifully designed and made piece by one of the premier makers of the period.
