Fabulous Australian walnut sideboard by Gimson & Slater c.1955
Fabulous Australian walnut sideboard by Gimson & Slater c.1955
A wonderful example of 1950’s design manufactured by Gimson & Slater as part of the Vesper Furniture range that retailed at high-end department stores such as Heals, Liberty, Maple & Co. and Dunn’s of Bromley. This Siesta range sideboard is finished in a striking and beautiful combination of richly figured Queensland (Australian) walnut with a concave front and overhanging top, beech trim and elegant tapered legs and is finished with trumpet shaped aluminium handles - the overall impact is very special. The concave front is wonderfully echoed in the shape of the handles, tapered and angled legs and curved front stretcher - its a wonderfully accomplished design most probably by Sylvia Slater. Full professional restoration and finished in a heat, stain, uv resistant and maintenance free lacquer finish (as per original) it presents beautifully with only the odd tiny ding and nibble only visible on very, very close inspection. The top drawer base and sides are felt lined whilst the cupboards open to reveal a single mid height removable shelf offering lots of flexible storage. A beautifully proportioned and very well made British sideboard from a premier maker in near perfect restored condition.
