Exceptional rosewood, mahogany and brass sideboard

Exceptional rosewood, mahogany and brass sideboard

£3,250.00

An exceptionally rare and exquisite sideboard by Peter Hayward for Vanson model 9010. This is the only example of this sideboard I have ever seen - from the research I’ve undertaken it appears to have only been produced for a period in 1957. At that time this sideboard would have cost £84 (a huge sum at this time), equivalent to around £3000 today. The carcass and doors are all constructed with a solid timber core making this piece both exceptionally strong and extremely heavy with all solid brass hardware. The exterior carcass and legs are in mahogany whilst the drop down cupboard doors are veneered in a rich rosewood with a stylised brass inlay design - the overall impact is very, very special. Even the rear of this piece is fully finished with a rosewood back - this piece could be used as a very special room divider. The interior is fully fitted and includes a wine chest, lined with black formica with a slide out formica lined tray and slim shelf for glasses; a storage compartment with half depth black formica covered shelf and four solid mahogany drawers one of which is sectioned and felt lined for cutlery. In wonderful professionally restored condition the piece has been fully stripped of its original cellulose lacquer finish and given a satin sheen modern ac lacquer that is stain, heat and uv resistant whilst being extremely hard wearing and maintenance free. The interior is 100% original and has been carefully cleaned and polished and presents wonderfully. Just the odd tiny mark and nibble only visible on very, very close inspection. An exceptional piece of British mid-century design and craftsmanship.

183cm (6ft) length x 51cm depth x 89cm height.
