Single convertible sofa by Robin Day for Hille c.1956 for bespoke upholstery
Single convertible sofa by Robin Day for Hille c.1956 for bespoke upholstery
A rare opportunity to own a single convertible sofa designed in 1956 by Robin Day for Hille. Currently under-going a full professional restoration in our studio this rare and highly desirable piece is now offered for bespoke upholstery of your choice. In 1957 this design won a Design of the Year award from the Council of Industrial Design for its striking low-slung appearance and incredibly simple mechanism to turn the piece from a sofa to a single bed. The arms are constructed from laminated solid mahogany and are newly lacquer finished (as per original) whilst the seat base is correctly detailed and finished with all new black Pirelli webbing - almost 23 metres of it! The price also includes all new foam and labour but excludes fabric - 6 linear metres will be required. Please contact us to discuss options - we can source a wide range of fabrics at trade prices. Please be quick with this one as we might just go ahead and get the upholstery done (probably in a period correct Mourne) sooner rather than later!
194cm length x 70cm height x 84cm depth. Sleeping surface is 10cm deep x 188cm length. Seat height - 42cm.
PLEASE NOTE - all our prices now EXCLUDE delivery. We can offer a limited one man delivery service starting at £95 depending on your location - Please contact us to discuss. Alternatively pieces can be collected from our studio space in Derby DE1 1LR by arrangement.
