WH Curly Russell X6409 armchair in eggshell boucle c.1950

£325.00

A British classic this wonderful armchair was designed by WH ‘Curly’ Russell in 1950, subsequently exhibited at the Festival of Britain in 1951 and then in production until the 1970’s. It was one of the most enduring and popular British dining chair designs of the period (available both with and without arms) it was produced in various materials including rosewood, oak, walnut, teak and as seen here in richly figured and coloured mahogany. This armchair version has a cleaned and polished frame (with just the odd ding and nibble) original no sag metal springs and new foam covered in a richly textured boucle wool in eggshell by Bute. A subtle and beautifully executed design it is hugely under-rated today - it’s proportions and comfort make it a brilliant desk chair. The armchair is in my opinion one of the finest British chair designs of the period - elegant, refined and utterly timeless.

57cm width x 86.5cm height x 50cm depth. Height to seat 48cm.
