Richard Hornby for Fyne Ladye Sapele Mahogany bureau
Richard Hornby for Fyne Ladye Sapele Mahogany bureau
An absolutely beautiful and elegant alternative to a desk, this wonderful and rarely seen bureau was designed by Richard B.Hornby for Fyne Ladye of Banbury c.1960. The drop front opens to reveal a black leather writing surface and a fully fitted interior with letter rack, pigeon holes and two solid mahogany drawers. The bureau also features two generous full width drawers, the whole piece has been given a full professional restoration and has been newly satin lacquer finished. The bureau stands on elegant, tapering solid mahogany legs and is finished in a richly coloured and figured sapele mahogany veneer that was widely used by British manufacturers in this period with its distinctive pinstrip. Lovely subtle detailing throughout - the whole carcass is framed in raised solid mahogany trim, the top drawer and face is angled and is finished with solid brass trumpet shaped pulls. A wonderful quality piece by a premier British maker / designer of the period in excellent restored condition with just the odd ding, veneer nibble and tiny mark only noticeable on very close inspection. Please also note the key turns, but does not lock the bureau.
